Great Daniel: I was slapped for speaking in tongues – 14-yr-old gospel singer recounts torture with record label
Daniel Monday Akpan, a 14-year-old gospel performer better known by his stage name Great Daniel, has disclosed how a manager from his former record company, EeZee Concept, slapped him four times for speaking in tongues on stage (N/B: this slap was made at the hotel room after his ministration).
On his Facebook page, Great Daniel recently made the announcement that he was leaving the record label without giving a reason.
The Akwa-Ibom-born “Great Daniel” singer revealed that the record label's harsh treatment caused him to break up with them in an exclusive interview with his personal manager "David Akpan" and the Gospelmusic Entament Team.
"I went for a program at Abia State, I spoke in tongues on stage, and when we got to our hotel room, he [vice-president of the record label] was asking me why I spoke in tongues on stage," the speaker claimed. He yell at me. I was attempting to explain to him that it was not my fault because I had been guided by the Holy Spirit when he began to smack me. I began to cry because my parents weren't there to protect me with me, they were in Lagos state. I didn’t have anyone, so I came back to Lagos state.”
He further disclosed that as a result of the controversy, the record company “Eezee Concepts” that had been funding his schooling cut him off from classes and hired a home tutor who only taught him three of the nine topics he was required to take in school.
He recalled, "It was my first term in SS2, I dropped out, and I spent four months at home while my peers were in school learning. I was just prevented from going to school by the record label, who said that they would send a teacher to take me home for lessons out of security concerns.
Daniel added he believed that God is going to take him places, especially now that he is about to embark on an independent music journey.
